When i got on the #33 coming back from work today there was a lady who must have been well into her 70s complaining to the driver that a guy on the top deck was carrying on and verbally abusing people. The driver said it wasn;t anything to do with him and he only drives the bus and if she had a problem she should ring the police. Then he said that if he confronts the guy and something happens he'd lose his job.I wonder what happens if the feller kicks off and starts bashing people, does he stay hiding behind his plexiglass

Well, that is the official line anyway - drivers are instructed to summon assistance and wait for it to arrive.Another reason (apart from the unreliable service and astronomical fares) why people are staying away from the buses in their droves.Smoking, for instance, is rife on the upper decks now I'm told as those carrying out the act know there is little chance of being confronted over it.

I started "on the buses" in 1974.At that time if a driver had problems with a passenger where there was a threat of violence etc then the driver would remove the passenger.Nowadays drivers are not allowed to touch a passenger for fear of assault accusations. They are not allowed to touch teenagers in fear of assault accusations. You cannot ask for name and address details. In fact the list is endless. All the companies are bothered about is getting passengers on the bus. The welfare and safety of staff is virtually non existant.
