Just seen Lee, at the soon to be Old Cock in Otley, and he's hoping to open in time for the Folk Fest. Support him eh?And the Garden Gate is only about a 20 minute walk from the (Leeds) Bus Station, and well worth it. Plenty of buses back for those with iffy bladders. Like me.Anyone know the status with the Haddon Hall or Rising Sun?

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The Old Cock is to be the former Curlew Cafe on Crossgate (between the pizza joint and the mower repair shop). And a very nice job he is making of it too - mullions replaced in the windows and a new datestone (the original was nicked). Similar to Blind Jacks in Knaresborough is my understading of the intention.

The Imperial in Beeston has closed. There's a notice on the door but I haven't had a chance to park and read it yet. I remember when I first moved to Beeston (10 yrs ago). We did a pub run one Saturday afternoon starting at The Kings Arms in Holbeck. Then went to The Spotted Cow, Bull's Head, The Brittania, Waggon & Horses then finished at The Imperial. All these pubs (except the Bull's Head I think) have been shut at some point or another. With The Brit and the Waggon & Horses (now the United Bar) re-opening. Maybe a reflection on the trade in general over a 10 year period. Also, near me is The Malvern which has been boarded up for a few years but no-one seems to know what to do with it.

Pubs are rapidly closing down and becoming a memory, just like cinemas did many years back, as their popularity wanes (no doubt a lot to do with the availability of cheap beer in supermarkets). There may be a market for an old pubs of Leeds book, unless there is already one or more that I'm unaware of. They could be like those books on Leeds cinemas by Robert Preedy some years back.
