there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

here's where the wall is on Google earth circled in black - not exactly where I originally thought - but I was right in thinking it was at right angles to the main court .The white outline shows the 'Crown and Fleece' from comparison with O.S. map posted by Si. - see below for a pic of the frontage.

A longer shot of where the skulls were. If you look at the maps Si posted at the top of page 9 you can see where th crown Court 'doglegs' round the back of the old pub and headed north to an access ginnel on Kirkgate. The skulls were on the west side of the alley - the east side has been demolished and is now a small car park. [if you look at the 10th post on page 7 of this thread - Phill D has taken a pic along the side of this wall - at the time we didnt realise its significance]

Until I studied the maps Si posted iI wasn't aware exactly where the pub was- but know we know - it was the two shops here. Mo too , which is empty at present and Rebop. Fine old buildings - that really belong in the lost pubs thread but I'll leave them here.As an aside - from studying the maps its clear that these buildings comprised the Crown and Fleece. They are now two separate properties - and I can't help wondering if they weren't originally separate premises too. The 'Crown and Fleece' is an unusual pairing of names, and may well be a unique pub name (google results in nothing !)I cant help wondering if originally they were two separate pubs that were combined into one at some stage. - the fact that the street and yard are called 'Crown Street' and 'Crown Court' - not for instance 'Crown and Fleece Court' adds to this theory. I must add though that this is pure conjecture on my part.
