RightThe red encircled area cover old Milgarth and the new nick. the pale blue, encirlces the old tiolet blocks. The purple covers the old Market tavern pub... The green circle, covers the old covered market area, a very small in market area, seperate from the main market.Last bit, is the orange circle, that covered a market area, long after a few buildings had been demolished!!

I dont rememebr the oranged circled bit being a market, although I was only a kid when the altered alot of the market, probably about 15 -18 years ago or so. The bit I remember as being the seperate little mini market was the green one. It had a great big stuffed donky toy for sale that I always wanted! The building onthe corner of Milgarth Street just at the bottom of your circle is still there, all on its own. something to do with the council storage I hearedAlso I thought the Market Tavern was on the corner with Harewood Street which would be the next street up toward Vicar lane from your purple circle.

The buildings in the orange circle were only demolished a few years ago, I remember one of them was a store selling many sorts of foam for cushions, beanbags etc.I thought the Market tavern was at the far end of that row, towards Vicar Lane. I can also remember the diagonal row of shops in the middle of the outdoor market - I think there was a selection of shops there, including the amusingly titled 'S&M Fruits' and a shop selling band t-shirts, badges and patches. I think they disappeared in the early 90's when the outdoor market was redeveloped, I've been in Leeds since 1989 and only have a faint memory of them being there. The coach and bus station was rebuilt at around the same time, give or take a few years. You can see some of the market at the bottom of the following photo, which was taken around 1980. Unfortunately Quarry Hill is out of shot, but plenty of other things to see:http://www.pbase.com/danielrobot/image/ ... 5/original
