I hate to spoil things for everyone but the Saxons were down south. The Angles were the dominant Germanic tribe in the north of England.

sorry to burst your bubble, but there are many saxon name places in yorkshire, and trade at this time was well established.my family seat is padside hall,at padside with thornthwaite, near the ancient borough of wigglesworth, which is yet another saxon name, meaning warrior of the field.and when the venerable bede wrote his anglo saxon chronicles,he wrote of the saxons as contempory news.being that he was living on lindisfarne at the time, leaves only one question;how far north do you want the saxons to come before they stop being in the south?
i do believe, induced by potent circumstances, that thou art' mine enemy?

Gonna sit on the fence with this one guys and girls! Just because it was ginericaly known as the Anglo-Saxon era, it dosn't mean they were actual Saxon people or Saxon style burials! For example in the earliest Roman occupation ther were still Britons wandering around doing there own thing but it was known as the Roman era! Get my drift??

Of course, it goes without saying that not everyone was angle or saxon. However, they were the dominant race. Briton, at the time was part celts, parts romano, part Anglo Saxon. Plus a few other races chucked into the mix. Take a look here {urlhttp://www.oldtykes.co.uk/viking.htm[/url]Saxon evidence around Leeds.

Aye, but the christian faith was the dominant religion by then, due to the latter Roman occupation bringing it in!!

True! But as is still true today they still existed although weaker faiths! Would love to get some professional input on this! as to the possibilities! Carbon dating of the remains would give an almost exact year and therfore be able to say who was dominant in Leeds at the time!

Aye. Love archeology myself and the chance to learn more about the far past of our local area! Hopefully an "expert" will take pity on us and give a good account of such times. Not holding my breath though... lol
