This is the new Routemaster, apart from the large dome at the back of the bus, and the back stairs there is basically no similarity to the old routemaster at all. It's interesting to see it has a middle door, which was classed as dangerous and phased out on Leeds buses circa 1985. This one has an added back door to watch out for as well.

Looking at the 'new' Routemaster, I can't help but feel it's a triumph of nostalgia over purpose or needs. There is absolutely no need for the curve of the rear roof, other than the old buses used to be like that.Does it really need 3 doors at the cost of passenger accommodation downstairs? The front door suggests the driver will be taking fares, but the big rear door suggest fare dodging paradise (one of the reasons given for the removal of the bendy buses...) - or will they have conductors? The "rear platform" looks to have doors installed, so you'll not be able to leap on a departing bus as they used to in "the good old days".I'm not saying that there is no need for a bit of design flare, or of aesthetically pleasing lines, but is this bus really the best that we can manage?

And one more thing...mrs ravey got the bus home from work on Friday - a First Leeds bus on a journey wholly within the Leeds boundary (the point of this will become clear). On the bus were leaflets giving details of special fares and where to get updates over what services were being run over the Christmas / New Year period, so she picked on up and popped it in her bag.Having gone to read it, it's a leaflet from First YORK, and unsurprisingly it's all about the services in York...You really couldn't make it up!

According to one of the Sunday papers some of the bendy busesare going to MALTA.Considering the state of Maltese roads and the suicidal busdrivers it could prove interesting !
