I took the plunge today. Having read Auto Express group test + other, I downloaded the Cameralert for android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... lertCardie, sorry to hear that. Over the years assumed they had the nod to keep holidaying brits a)moving and b) happy and hence c) spending money over there (at risk of digressing from Leeds..)

There was a very light mizzle for a few miles. I got pulled over by a cop and told that I should have been driving at the lower speed limit due to the rain. We had a friendly conversation about the difference between mizzle and rain but I still ended up £80 lighter. I hope you got a receipt...The Gendarmes also take a dim view of any speed camera detectors, including satnavs which display the location of speed cameras / traps. Falling foul of this usually results in an additional 'donation to funds' and the confiscation of the device.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Actually it is legal to have a device showing the location of speed traps etc; This site sums it up neatly:http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-cam ... al.htmRoad Angel is a good device I have seen used by a lot of people. It measures your speed against the road you are on and alerts by a sound if going over the limit.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Be wary of 'free' trials of speed camera software though. I've got a Garmin satnav and downloaded the free trial package - which is now out of date and seemingly impossible to remove. It now makes an annoying racket along the A1(M) where the upgrade was going on a couple of years ago and there was a 50mph limit, even though this has now been lifted.Of course I could pay to have the full service enabled then I'd get up to date locations...which would cost nearly as much as buying a new satnav.

I've used Camalert before, and found it to be to expensive and overly complex to use and update.A better and cheaper option that I have used successfully is the Navfree app.http://www.navmii.com/gpsnavigationIts available via the google play store for android devices, is cheap, accurate, and a speed camera warning add on download is available at a much cheaper price than Camalert.
