Ha ha. Funnily enough I found it on Secret Leeds. I think it's been quoted on a few reports else where. Finding these things again is a pain sometimes. anyway this quotes Meanwood/Timble.Timble Beck is unrelated. What people call Meanwood Beck starts near Otley Chevin and meanders its way to the River Aire. It takes the name of the area it ...www.secretleeds.com/forum/PrintMessages.aspx?Thread- http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... ge=0&#6426

As kids in the 70s living in Meanwood we set off one summer day to follow the beck to its source. Clad in wellies, which were full of water after about 20 minutes, we followed it via a combination of walking alongside it, or in it when the path disappeared, and had a couple of interesting stop offs at the aquaduct in Adel woods and the legendary air raid shelter at stairfoot lane. We'd been going most of the day and thought we were probably approaching Scotland when we came across a lake. It was obviously windermere and we were jubilant to have found the source of the beck. We explored for a while then heard a road so headed towards it. We were disappointed to find a Leeds City Transport bus stop and realised we were at Golden Acre park. We decided to save our bus fare for some fish and chips and started hitching a lift (5 of us, aged about 7 to 10). After a while, a minibus stopped, driven by a scruffy bloke and his wife and we all piled in. They dropped us at Bryans and we piled into the fish and chips then walked home through Meanwood Park getting back about 8, 12 hours from when we set off.Happy days! Hard to imagine kids of that age doing similar today....

Work back from there and you have a few tiny becks, Marsh Beck probably the most relevant, all on the outskirts of Bramhope. Also the outflow from Pauls Pond, which it's self fed from the drainage of what is now Cookridge Hall Golf course. After Sheepscar it becomes more or less a sewer. Some of my schoolmates, from Woodhouse, reckoned they walked right through it in the 70's, and came out opposite about where the Armouries is.

Meanwood Beck finall disappears underground just behind the old Mabgate pub. Heads down Eastgate and then tuns sharp south across the end of the Headrown and under Millgarth police station. Handy if you ever want to breakout? It then cuts across the bus station diagonally and then down East Street as far as Turlow Court. The flats are built on a diagonal with the watercourse running under their carpark and entering the river below Leeds Weir

Meanwood Beck finally disappears underground just behind the old Mabgate Pub. Heads down Eastgate and then tunrs sharp south under the roundabout and directly under Millgarth police station. There's a manhole in the grass near the statue to the VC Pilot. Handy if you ever want to breakout? It then cuts across the bus station and under the Viaduct to East street where it splits into two parallell channels. Down East Street as far as Turlow Court. The flats are built on a diagonal with the watercourse running under their carpark and entering the river below Leeds Weir

In the 50s when I was nowt but a nipper we used to go fishing in Meanwood Beck at the bottom of Sugarwell Hill and behind the Yorkshire Switchgear. We never called it Meanwood Beck, it was always called 'the Dammy'.

Yeah mate. It was a guy called Rob I know who found it today. It was past the New Roscoe. I'll post the stuff straight from the horses mouth.*********************************The day started off OK. I dropped my car off at a large garage, near the Royal Armouries in Leeds, to have its MOT and then walked home. I planned to walk back this afternoon to pick it up. Since I live near the meanwood beck, I thought it would be a good idea to do a solo trip through Masticator, come out opposite the armouries and just cross the river and collect the car.The trip started OK, and I got into the first underground section at 2.30pm. After the 30 hours of rain, that we had last weekend, the water level was higher than on our previous visit, back in June.Despite bits of high water and a few unseen underwater piles of rubble, I had no problems. After taking photgraphs of the graffiti, near the Roscoe Pub, I went into the culvert which goes under roundabout at the end of Regent Street. Rubble had built up in the middle and there was what seemed to a pile of rags on top of it. When I got closer I realised it was the body of a man. It scared me S***less. It wasn't an urban explorer. I phoned 999 and there were loads of police cars and an ambulance there within minutes.I've spent the rest of the afternoon in a police station, giving a statement. Fortunately, the detective was very sympathetic towards urban exploration. I did have to hand over the memory card from my camera, so there are no photographs to post. There were no photographs of the body.I have 2 comments; This is a reminder to us all that underground places with water are dangerous places. Be careful, especially when doing solo trips. Please give the police a few days to do their job, before planning any trips through masticator.

I was going to quip that we wondered if you'd left someone we know behind down there Phill but, given the closeness to us all in a way, that seems inappropriate now. It must have been quite a shock for Rob, particularly being alone and whilst his presence might seem suspicious at first glance, at least it was fortunate that the stricken guy was found sooner rather than later. I wonder what had happened
