The Blooming Rose closed, probably for ever, on 22/10.The owners are taking over the New Inn, which will be reopened - so its not all bad news. The Blooming Rose is for sale but I understand its very unlikely to reopen as a pub.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

[quotenick="TrojanMorley LCT stops named after Inns were:55: Angel Inn, Bruntcliffe, Stump Cross Inn, Britannia Road, Hembrig Inn (Morley Dashers) High Street, Gardeners Arms, Wide Lane.52/53: New Inn (Bottom 'oil) Commercial Inn (Top 'oil) Prospect Inn/Nelson Inn, Victoria Road, Fountain Inn corner Fountain Street and Queen Street for the 52 plus Sycamore Inn, High Street for the 53.The 52 went to Cross Hall via Fountain Street, and then back to Meanwood via Britannia Road, Tngley Bar and Bridge Street: the 53 went to Tingley Bar via High Street and Bridge Street, and then back to Meanwood via Cross Hall and Fountain Street. BURRP - HICK - I'm shurrprised you can type shoo well after that lot !! Another little trick we had - those of us not familiar that is - for knowing which way to turn at the outer end of Morley High Street :-LOWEST number (52) turns LEFT, highest number (53) turns right - simple aids but effective eh ??

In my experience, while the points raised above are true, another factor which ties in with not only with the “greedy pubco’s” but also applied when brewers like Scot Co [aka Scottish Courage, Scottish and Newcastle Retail, Scottish & Newcastle, Grand Met and all of its previous guises and other big brewers] is the standard of their lower tier management. I had more than a few Area Managers who were barely old enough to drink, weren’t the sort of people who would drink in pubs anyway [trendy wine bar types] and who had absolutely no interest in the industry as a whole. They never stayed long – although they did a lot of damage in their short stays- using the job as a stepping stone to something bigger. Have a look at some of the job adverts for “Retain Area Managers” the only interest seems to be in how many “units” in this case, pubs, the person has looked after – damaged – not how successful they have been.As a manager, it was quite comforting to know that Noddy would move on within about six months or so. Problem was they’d be replaced by another 16 year old with no clue.I got sick of it and bought leasehold. It wasn’t so much the tie that made it hard [true that the price we paid for the beer was three times the price of say Bookers Wholesale or Makro] it was the business rates and the rent. £39K a year for the rates, and we lit and cleaned the street better then the council! £31K rent. [then there’s staff costs, gas, lekky blah, blah] And this is before you’ve started selling the drink. You can buy six cans of Kronenbourg in the offy for a fiver, sit in the comfort of your own home and smoke and watch SKY [£7.5K commercial license for a boozer to show third division Albanian cow pat throwing] and people wonder why pubs are closing? As an after-thought.... you want pubs to stay open? Then don't sit in watching telly and drinking cans with the "I'll go down for the last hour..." mentality. Go. Go to the pub! Take the wife [leave the kids] have a drink. Have a belly full! I know, it's expensive but YOUR LOCAL NEEDS YOU!

In defence of Noddy, he is driven by targets. I had a mate who's patch was the Welsh Valleys during the time of the Rise of the Alcopops. He was expected to get the old time pubs to take these on and sell them. Usually without success. Having said that it was a springboard to other things. He ended up managing Guiness in Nigeria and now spirits in the far east. He still has no idea how he was supposed to sell alcopops in the Rhonda.

Isn't that the latest zombie film?(Also dissapointed to have missed the Albanian cow pat throwing on Sky...)PS I try to get to the pub when I can, but difficult once six months of jobseekers finishes. Maybe that's another reason...growing unemployment?

Hello Si - I passed through Otley a couple of days ago and there's still no sign of action at the Bowling Green despite Wetherspoons' assurances that work would commence in October - what are your views on this please ??

Hi Blakey and Lilysmum (nice holiday?)Yes, work was supposed to start on the Bowling Green this month, but nowt's happened. I didn't see the article in the local papers, but I'm off into Otley today, so I'll have a look. There may be something posted outside. I'll ask in the pub on quiz night (Thursday) too.
