Hi, unfortunately this is not the same guy, the two road sweepers resembled Laurel and Hardy in stature. I remember the white guy (Stan Laurel) actually retired, he got probably one of the first video camera's available as his retirement present, he could be described as "Not having many chairs at home"nice guy though. He was never the same after his partner died (Oliver Hardy).Have talked to several people today who remember them around the streets of Farnley, moreso around the 42 bus termnus area.

I think he did a weekly crawl of the student-ey pubs up Otley Road.He wore cowboy boots, skin-tight black stonewashed (or similar) jeans and a big furry jacket, and he had long hair although he was receding quite severely and was at least mid forties age-wise. His whole appearance was a sort of 80's glam metal Guns n' Roses stylee. He never really spoke to anyone, except on one occaision I saw him talking to a bloke called Frank, who was a local character I vaguely knew in the pubs round Pontefract when I lived there (God know's what he was doing in the Leeds Met Union bar).I used to wonder what his story was, but never got round to asking. Has anyone ever seem him around? Yeah, that would be "cider" Paul He's been around for years. You'll often see him drinking cheap cider outside the Dry Dock with just about anyone. I've also seen him in the Fenton and "Rock of Ages"I'm sure he's in his 50's now.To talk to, he's quite well spoken and a little flamboyant. He used to go round the pubs selling CD's out of 3 tatty carrier bags.He once went berserk in Nafees restaurant. (in the 80's)    In spite of knowing him to talk to for years I don't know anyone who knows much about him which leaves it wide open to all manner of rumour and speculation. My favourite myth is, he's a qualified solicitor who was in a terrible car crash that brain damaged him and killed his pretty wife.Ill see if I can get a picture of him tonight, I'm sure he wont mind. Afternoon all this is my first time here.We all new him as 'Mad Paul' in the '80s. He was notorious for recording concerts at the poly and the uni and would have at least 4 people trying to get tapes and recorders into gigs for him. He used to have 1000's of cassetes in the back of a little van, he sold 'em for about 3 quid each.

He had two red leather and chrome barber's chairs, a green baize table with his cut-throats arranged on it and a hot towel machine - the works. He was quite short, had black brylcreemed hair and a pencil moustache, and chain-smoked all over you as he worked! My dad used to drag me there for a hair cut before school. I'm afraid I can't remember his surname. That'll be Alf Learoyd. he was a good friend of my dads. I used to get my haircut there too, maybe we sat on the same bit of timber placed across the arms of the barbers chair.

I'm suprised nobody's mentioned Bernard Davy. He's an irish character with longish hair and a tash. He's well into music and used to be a talented singer. My dad's known him for years; one time he collared me on Eastgate and gave me a bike though I tried to refuse it. He kept yelling 'try it on!' until I finally sat on it, then he walked off. He seemed quite aggressive to onlookers but was actually trying to be nice. My mate recognised him and said he'd met him once in the vine, where Bernard had challenged my mate to 'fight him for his coat' (Bernard's coat that is - God knows why he wanted to fight for something he already owned)
