Often in these cases you have to take the unorthodox approach, there is far too much mumbling and grumbling & messing about with red tape here. Which probably explains why nothing ever gets done. All talk and no action I think were all too familiar with. Tell it to them straight and get on with the job. I think if i used the formal approach I'd still be photographing butterflies in canal gardens! I see what you're saying but I'm trying to put myself in the position of a Civic Trust official - and if I received a communication that looked like a bit of a rant I'd be inclined to bin it, whereas a co-ordinated, logical, well-presented approach might make me listen. :meh:

I think we'd all agree that their current location is totally unsuitable and inappropriate. The question is do we: a) lobby to get them back to their original location ?- if we can access/find it (- with a suitable plaque I would suggest. ) But whilst this might be satisfying the skulls would still be very inaccesible .or b) try to get the council involved to put them in a good accessible location on a public building in the city centre? Good question Drapsey. In my opinion I think they should be placed for all to see. No better location than underneath the crown sign on the old pub and a small plaque telling the story underneath. I don't think having them placed in the original position is much better than were they are now. Any other thoughts?? York has loads of this stuff and plays on it. In Leeds we hide it! good call

Who else thinks this should be the fitting thing to do and a nice little story for the S.L gang? I can have a few words in the right shell like for this one. Phil you know im in there mate.Sent this to the Leeds civic trust aleady, prior to the last 2 posts:"Please read all the entries on this thread from secret leeds first(theres 5 pages).http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... Message=0I think the conservation of this historical artefact is well worth the effort. We the contributors of Secret Leeds only lack the resources and knowhow to preserve such relics of our local history, whereas yourselves know what to do to ensure the preservation of such unique historical instances. We on Secret Leeds are the common Loiners ,upholders of our towns past.No heirs nor graces,no one upmanship that one feel pervades through the ranks of those lucky enough to have gone on to higher education.Basically, Leeds lads and lasses say,get the skulls somewhere safe for future generations. You are Leeds civic trust,do summat about it." PS yes ive had some shandies when i sent this, but its quite restrained by my Shandy standards With respect cnosni, I do appreciate what you were trying to achieve there but such bodies at the Civic Trust aren't likely to take seriously approaches such as that. I don't think it's appropriate to assert, 'we at Secret Leeds' - you can't speak for all of us without a consensus, although I support this campaign. If a Secret Leeds campaign is to be mounted it needs to be coordinated, agreed, and presented in an acceptable, grammatical and concise fashion. By the way, I didn't go on to higher education - I was instructed in no uncertain terms to leave school after O Levels and get a job - so please don't think I'm being elitist. I just think that to be taken seriously, we would need to present a case that is acceptable under the terms that these people operate. Points taken there Geordie, but as Phil knows i usually have a way with getting things done with similar bodies and those in high places, and it isnt usually in that fashion but as for it being a rant then i all i can say is it was not composed in that spirit, quite the opposite actually.Once again this demonstrates the problems with electronic communications in that the correspondents mannerisms cannot be seen for the respondent to be able to decipher in what spirit the message is being conveyed.Perhaps you are correct that i should not say "we on secret leeds"as i could not possibly speak for all 998 members, but i had directed the Civic Trust to this thread of the site particularly, and suffice to say that the persons contributing to this thread are interested in doing something, which is what would seem to be the general concensus of those who have been appearing on this thread. It was these persons in particular that as was referring to as "We on Secret Leeds"So perhaps we should adopt a seperate, but complimentary, sub group to SL for those wishing to be a little proactive in all of this, then we can come to a concensus and not lump all of those SL contributors who do not wish to be associated with some form of campaign.
