There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Many thanks Drapesy - ah yes, I remember it well as The Admiral, but hadn't ever noticed it as Central Market. That answers a question thats been bugging me for ages.As regards the Slip Inn,its proper name forr many years was The Regent but always known as the Slip.It was eventually re-signed as THe Slip about 20 years? ago.Harry Olbison had it at one time and went on to the Dog and Gun on york Road.

The Golden Lion hotel at the bottom of Briggate is being rebranded as a "Boutique Hotel" called Cosmopolitan. I never really thought of this as a pub at all, more a hotel, but it did have a bar(sometimes called 'Golden Lion taps'). In years gone by, though, it was a proper inn and indeed an important Coaching Inn. it was/is very old - predating the existing building, and so a sad loss of an historic name. On a completely different note - the Grey Goose in Belle Isle is open again.

There was a planning application in the YEP a couple of weeks ago for the "former site of..." which was the first I knew of it closing. I went in there a fair few times in the early 90's - first stop en route to the Old Red Lion, Pathfinder, Cricketers, Lion and Lamb and finally The Travellers Rest at Crossgates.I think they're going to build an old folks home on the site, but I might be wrong.
