Leeds lost cinemas

There we go. This is from Robert Preedy's "Leeds Cinemas 2"published in 1982. The Palace was at 10 Meadow Road. It opened in 1915 as the"People's Picture Palace" and changed to just the "Palace" in 1932. The last film shown was "Back to God's Country" with Rock Hudson on 03/06/1961. It looks to me that this photo was taken after the cinema had closed - it looks deserted and I think that car is post 1961 (At a guess 1965-68?).

SPLAY=FULL Here's the Parkfield in 1963 from leodis. As you can see its no longer a cinema although the signs still there. It closed as a cinema in 1946.The railway runs just down the back - I bet you could hear the trains roaring past during the films.Wonder what happened to it?

Picture House on Domestic Street, Holbeck. At the time the picture was taken (1980), it was the Silver Dollar Bingo and Social Club. It opened in 1916, and closed in 1962.

which was "Leeds and Holbeck" BS and so its returned to its roots in this case
