The image is a bit small on here but you can see the G.N.R 1899-1967 line crossing over & running down the curve to connect with the Miggy line.

Phil sorry if I sound a bit dim but can you point out on the map where this connection is? the reason i ask is that this whole area was My childhood play ground and in the early seventies I was also a miggy railway member and I cannot fathom where the two railways joined or why they would need to. Plus knowing that area as it was and what existed there building wise it must have been a hell of a short loop on a 1 in 1 incline! Many thanks Moggy-the-pest

Yes it's difficult to see on these small scale pictures secret Leeds hosts.. ok look in the red box.. You can see a line crossing another one with a bridge highlighted. you can then see it curve & join the other one which is the Middleton line. The name place says Parkside... There are a load of pictures of the line connecting at this point in books or on the net.. The line was abandoned in 1967.

Phil just caught the red box image Know that bridge well (fell off a rope swing fastened to the underside of it as a kid!!!) but honestly Phil no spur that i can remember was there, the relatively modern geography wouldn't allow it. Unless its something from the original build ie 1800's. As Sherlock Holmes once said--"Watson the games afoot"!ps I think My Leeds tram video might have a scene of this very area will get back to you PhillA very puzzled Tabbycat

No it ran down a curved steep embankment to meet the Miggy line.. check out the book & you can see it clearly. It's marked on the map too

Sorry Moggy and with all due respect we are talking semantics here. I have, still just, lived more than half my 40+years in LS11 but have still to see anyone firmly define borders of belle isle, hunslet, beeston and miggy.Dewsbury road from somewhere just above the junction(probably tunstall road) is considered as Beeston. However from Tunstall Road to the Sports and Social Club and beyond it it probably nearer Belle Isle Circus and Hunslet Moor than Beeston village (area around the co-op on old lane). From the Social Club to the White Rose (in Churwell) it will be as near or not much further from one end of Middleton's town street as it is from the former centre of Beeston (the village).Where does Belle Isle become Miggy? Surely before Town Street leaves Belle Isle road.Given all that I just accept the boundaries are somewhere in a grey area in the middle of Miggy woods/park/golf course and I would find it hard to believe a railway line running from belle isle road to the bottom of Middleton ring road didn't come close to travelling in or very close to what could be considered Miggy

Hi all back again firstly thank you tyke bhoy for for good old fashioned debate its nice to to find people who care enough to argue a reasoned point. as for the districts you are probably right the hard and fast boundries of my/your youth have certainly become something of a melting pot in later years,so i will happily concede that one. Phil i have found the area concerned on my tram dvd but it only shows where the bridge crosses the tram tracks and not the railway so i will bite the bullet on that one as well. i did find where i fell off the swing and hit my head though!! seriously it would seem a good idea that whats left of our local heritage be recorded by you guys in digital picture form , rather than the relience on memory which, in my case, seems slightly out of sync.regards all Moggy
