The Roscoe is one of Leeds finest music venues with some pretty big names gracing the stage over the years! One of the biggest no doubt was Buster blood vessel from the 1980's ska revival band Bad manners plus John Ottaway & several well known group members of the walking dead, well known chaps from groups such as the CLASH e.t.c! My favourite guitar maestro Jed Thomas would put Hendrix to shame any day! Here the Four Horseman play a nice n loud outside gig a few years ago One of my favourite live bands at that time. Andy prowler of the 'Prowlers' fame is second from the left (A real harmonica virtuoso) with Ray Lion next to him who flitted with stardom with the TROJANS in the 80's!

Nice one Phill really enjoyed this thread.....I count myself lucky to be one of the dwindling band of people to have had a pint in the original Roscoe.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Ah the Horsemen, that brings back memories. There was a time when you couldn't go to any real ale pub in Leeds without seeing them. I must have seen them more than 100 times. I can still hear Ray's voice singing "Senor"! I recognise him and obviously Andy Prowler, but who were the others? Also, Ray had a band of his own but what were they called? I don't think I ever saw them. My mate Norm's band 'Love it to Death' played at Andy Prowler's wedding do at the Duchess of York and the bride and groom joined them on stage to do 'Honky Tonk Woman'. Back then, the Prowlers could sell out the Duchess on a Saturday night.Disagree about Jed Thomas tho - for me, Paul Buckley was the best guitarist on the Leeds 'scene', nice and understated. Also, who was the one-man blues band?Perhaps a 'Leeds pub bands' thread would be an idea?

Phil, do you have any photos othe area of Sheepscar before it was redevloped? I would really like to see it how it was, especially looking from Chapeltown Road into North Street and Sheepscar Street/ Meanwood Road, and also the Golden Cross pub which i have never seen a pic of ever! - I don't ask for much but I've never seen on in the library or Leodis or anything?

Well i hope you find one myself LS1 i've looked myself trying to pin point the old Roscoe to find where that plaque should be these days! I have seen a nice 1980's shot of the area not long after the interchange had been built. Don't the cars look old fashioned from only a few years ago?
