It is a four star hotel and it has a total of 217 rooms. buffalo beats catHere's the full pic with City SqLooking upper mid-left of shot, is that square steel frame the beginning of the arch with ornate carvings on left side of current queens? And I assume behind it to be the old Queens Hotel. Upper mid right is the bowed front of Majestic? Phill had pointed out that more of the river aire is visible coming in along Aire St (and pre-1905 would have gone forward to Swinegate Goit).

Indeed, this small section in red is all about what's left of where the Swinegate goit ran. I was always under the impression the new concrete section that covers this area today would have been built when the station was remodeled in the 60's. It appears it was done with the building of the Queens Hotel foundations looking at this photo.Down those steps and turn around. And this is the view you get.You can see where the underground section finished, the foundations of the Queens Hotel clearly visible. No secret tunnels or bricked up old goits under there I'm afraid. The talks of tunnels under the Queens Hotel being another one of the Leeds myths like the Monks tunnel at Kirkstall I'll add these photos to the relevant threads later.
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

Recognised it straight away, though my post may have been too cryptic. The prominent white gable end to the right of the view is the end wall of the Outdoor Machinery Engineers property from where I served my apprenticeship in the 1950s. That wing contained (from the basement up) the joiners, the tractor shop, the mess room, and the painters.
