Some very interesting stuff about housing in Holbeck at http://www.leedshousingpartnership.co.u ... 115834.pdf including some of the pubs. The Oswalds were between Gelderd Rd and the railway line, roughly where the car park is between HSS Hire and the large white-roofed warehouse here: http://goo.gl/maps/sJQ6EYou can get historic maps of the area at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html with coordinates 428360 and 432363. The area is now very industrial and there are no pubs anywhere near, unless you count the Winerite warehouse on the site of the old cattle market.

Very borderline Lower Wortley,Beeston too....I remember the Smythes Arms very well.....used to go regular about 1980/82....great atmosphere but quite a few shady's in(prob me included back then lol)..from the rear of the premises, was a room at a higher level than the main "tap side".At the side of the tap room was a very popular pool table where many a pint was won and lost.We stopped going when my mate's car got nicked outside, never to be seen again.Still,it was a mark 2 capri and quite easy to gain acess to.Long walk home that night.....

The only pubs still open any where near this vicinity are The Dragon on Whitehall Road and The Bulls Head in Holbeck - but both are a fair walk away. The Smyths and The Cattle Market have their own threads on the forum. Also look at the thread relating to the 'Lemi' a recreation ground (former cricket ground ) that was in this area. Theres also info on the 'Lost Pubs thread - but this is massive and tricky to search. http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... D=1808This is a thread about some Holbeck pubs that leads to other threads also. http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... ID=368This is the brilliant thread about the 'Lemi'http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... ssage=0And this is a thread I started about what little remains of the Cattle Market( i.e the actual Market, rather than the pub of the same name which was nearby)Hope these are of interest and answer some of your questions!
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.
