Thanks Phill - I loved the early diesel railcars in that dignified green livery, and no silly pictures of town halls and waterfalls etc like today. In the second picture there's not much left of the Mark 1 Standard Vanguard down below - that at least will have saved someone a massive petrol bill as they were very thirsty motors, but luxurious with it !!
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Makes you wonder why they had petrol garages under railway arches really.....still,H&S was never a big thing back then.Remember well, driving my old Ford Consul 2.5 litre to the garage at the side of the Queens Hall many moons ago 'cos there was no other late night garage within miles. It was known for being a late nighter.....but got me outta a few scrapes ! I remember the desperate sucking noise as I untwisted the plastic non-lock petrol cap.Eternally grateful.(Think she was too).

I've amended the link, I wasn't paying real good attention and was a bit preoccupied at the time, it's sorted now http://goo.gl/maps/ozBwj

Briggate Garage moved out to Hunslet - it's behind Nationwide Crash Repairs near Hunslet Mill (possibly not the right name...)now.
