I don't recall a Regent Cinema on Dewsbury Road but the Murder Shop (Dawsons) quoted in Leodis did have a branch on Dewsbury Road Hi uncle mick The cinema was at the junction of Roland Road and Dewsbury Road if you can remember Grandways on Dewsbury Road it was at the next set of lights down for years there was a travel agent next door.At one time the old cinema was a furniture store could i have got the name wrong the old brain cells are on the way out at my age lol.     tilly. Don't worry about the brain cells. After a few quick Googles I remembered it was the Pavillion http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomackroyd/491402046/     When it became furniture shop it was called Hemingways, right below My old school "Dewsbury Road County Primary Junior Mixed Infants"What a mouthfull!!

Stood out of the rain many a night in Hemingways Pavillion Store doorway, early 70's this was my teenage stompin ground. Was it called Pavillion Picture Palace originally? The Murder Man, Dawson, had a corner named after him (He had a shop in an old mill I am led to believe) on the Ring Road / Leeds - Bradford Road. Thats what I have been told, can anyone corroborate?

Hi Bramley4woods: Your amusing and moving tale of the Kirkstall Road Dawson refilling ball point pens with ink only increases my admiration for that family`s retailing brilliance, even if the treatment never worked. Especially if the treatment never worked! The “Murder “ ploy was a marvellous publicity strategy – here we are 70 years later still talking about it! – and the ink job takes my breath away for sheer enterprise. What a family! Let`s find any survivors and ask them to run the country!glax
