We are very lucky indeed in our part of Headingley. Our regular postman is the very best in efficiency. He's a tall chap and has a confident and quick stride , on the flat and uphill - pleasant and cheery to everyone whatever the weather and always willing to help with any difficulty at all.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Rang them this morning:CJ: Hi, you were meant to redelivery my parcel on Saturday and it didn;t comePostie: Ok mate, it's definitely coming todayCJ: Only if you can do it in the next half hour, i'm going to be at workPostie, Ok mate, well if you don't get it ring me again and i'll book a day that's better for youCJ: I'd like to book a day that's better for me now, like TomorrowPostie: Ok mate, i'll do that mate, see you mateSomehow i'm not filled with confidence, but at least they appear not to have tried to deliver it today. And remember the message on their machine, the quickest and easiest way is to collect it from your local delivery office, or go to our website at... *facepalm"

and tea break is always just starting or, 'it's not back yet' - exactly where is it during the three or so days between you not being there and visiting the office, actually, in my experience often there all the time, just needs to actually be looked for!

Count yourselves lucky. If any of those private couriers miss me they invariably seem to want me to collect from either York or Gildersome depots. Missed one a while back, it said Clifton Moor on the card but we rang up to find it was the wrong card and it was elsewhere. Being out in the sticks (the far end of route 36) that's not helpful!Posty in Leeds didn't want to deliver because dog was in the garden, well a 14 year old collie could really be a danger, eh?
I like work. I can watch it for hours.

I'll tell you where it goes when it's missing for those three days.If it isn't a Royal Mail driver, but it's the postman who has tried to deliver your parcel. He has to take it back to the Post office when he's finished his delivery, he hands it in there, they then give it to the Royal Mail collections driver when he comes to collect there mail and empty the box outside. He then takes it back to the main sorting office which is at Stourton (it used to be Welligton street) then it goes through all the process off been resorted, It then gets sent back to your local delivery office when they next take there mail bags (supposed to be overnight ready for next day delivery...NOT)Those parcels should be back in your local delivery office by the next day, but more often there not, I've seen returned packets come back to the local delivery office up to 5 days later, some have never been seen again. Royal Mail say you can collect it in three days time to stop people coming for parcels that are still in the main mail centre.Your returned parcel has to do that mad amount of mileage simply because.... the Postman doesn't go back to his sorting office to take it back after his delivery anymore. They scrapped the second delivery so there's no need for him to go back.Any wonder the company needs to save money haha :-)P*ss up's in a brewery indeed

I ordered a coat online recently - got an email from the company to say it had been despatched for delivery by Royal Mail, then nothing until another email a week later saying sorry I'd had to send it back and that they were crediting my account for the cost. Inbetween those two dates Royal Mail had made no attempt to deliver it - no card, no message, nothing - apparently just sent it straight back to the sender!

Lily...If they sent it back to the sender without attempting to deliver, it's a number of reasons. Firstly the letter or parcel needs to be 'killed off' a rather sinister term i know, but that's what it's called. A 'kill off' or 'dead letter' sticker needs to be placed on the item that your delivery postman or driver has to fill in. He has to tick one box on a list why he can't deliver your item.....i'e vague address, wrongly addressed, person not know at that address, you haven't collected the item in 2 weeks e.t.cHe then needs to put his initials on it, his badge number and date it. It then gets your address crossed out in big blue crayon with the senders address drawn round with the same said crayon. It then gets sent back to where it has come from. You want to make sure all that has happened to your item Lily, It can't get returned for no reason, It's an offence to intentionally delay someones mail. They should be able to trace the culprit who returned it, and for what reason he or she has stated.Don't let them charge you money at all, it sounds like gross incompetence to me!!
