Having swum with them in Key Largo, I can attest that they are big animals! I saw a 7 week old baby dolphin on holiday in America last week and even that was a fair size!! So the logistics of getting them into a swimming baths must have been tricky. Maybe they had a "porpoise" built contraption to get them in(thought I'd get that in before Arry)!!

Thanks for all your info on the dolphins.I did wonder how they would have got the dolphins into the baths in the first place and also about the water content before and after the event. The lifeguard in question is Brian Mills who is still involvedas he is the manager of Bramley Baths and is a top guy and an amazing water polo player

Just my little story about Armley Baths. As a youngster living and attending Armley National School which is quiet near the baths, we used to attend swimming twice a week with the school. Anyway I was once picked to join the Leeds Leander's, the Leeds swimming club I think, I'm a deaf old codger now but my hearing must have been defficiant even in those days, we were to attend for the club twice a week,, lets say Tuesday and Thursday, I got Monday and Thursday, for weeks I would walk past the paying kiosk, if challenged I would mumble something on the lines of being a club member so that I got in for free. I never did get anywhere, only my free swimming nights.

Another memory I have. It was New Years Eve dance, 1950 or 51 I forget which. After have a few dances with a lovely lass from Kirkstall, dark curly hair I think, one I stood up on a Sunday date at Kirkstall Abbey, anyway after a snow free year so far, as we came out at closing time it started to snow, another reason to celebrate with lots of us dancing in the street.

My 'better half' is from Armley - and remembers seeing the dolphins at Armley baths!. She thinks they were en-route to a zoo (flamingo land??), and believes there were seals as well.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

After your swimming session you'ld come out red eyed and runny nosed and buy a cup of hot Bovril and three salt biscuits ripped off at 4d. then walk home inhaling the fumes from Blakeys clegg mill-1960

I learnt to swim at Armley baths in the 70s [thanks Jeff). I do vaguely remember there being a dolphin show on there in the bigger pool.
