I'm glad you enjoyed last year's but, with every respect, I was bitterly disappointed by it - I thought the music was poor, and the way it just petered out in a bit of a shambles just off Park Lane was poor.Let's hope this year it returns to the normal splendid "stand down" right outside the Civic Hall steps after the Mayor has taken the salute on the march past.By the way, I have to tell you that if you join the parade again at the Woodhouse Lane assembly point carrying two Morrison's bags full of groceries and washing powder you will be in the Guard Room at the double !! - MOST undignified !! LOL Hi Blakey, better wear your conductor's 'At,at this year's! lolThanks for that info re. a yearly parade. Must get a new tin of Kiwi black and some Brasso! We must have some means of recognisingus S/leeds old sweats on the day! ('You are number six!' etc).Wild, staring eyes mebbe? lolI'm hoping Stevie F will be taking some excellent fotos again this year??? The dear lad kindly sent me some dvd's last year, butunfortunately I was just off camera on them Grrr!I promise to take me shopping bags home first!

I attended the Remembrance ceremony in the Garden of Rest on the Headrow every year while we lived in town and as my dad was the Secretary of the Polish Ex-Servicemen's Association and of the Royal British Legion (Chapeltown branch) in Leeds in the 1960s and early 1970s, he used to place wreathes on behalf of them each year. I was so proud of him. Sadly, he died in 1983 but I still have his British Legion badges. Occasionally I still go to the Remembrance ceremony in town but if not, I observe the Silence wherever I am, and go and see the wreathes in the Garden of Rest later. Sorry for not answering sooner Tasa. Got called awayyesterday and never got back on line!I can remember going in Bramham and Gale with my Mumin the '30s looking for rented rooms! We moved about a bitin those days! I went in there t'other day for a Steak Bake(Greggs!) They wouldn't rent me one out!lolNice to know you remember your Dad each year onArmistice Day. Might see you after the Parade in Mr Foley's?Probably packed out but keep shouting 'Secret Leeds,'arry',You'll soon recognise me .I'll be wearing a poppy!lolPS. I've never been in Mr Foley's but I'll have a good opportunitywith the Cenotaph so close!

Looks like cnosni missed the post! lol Well sort of Arry,i wrote a long winded bit about how the council should ensure that the parade in Leeds is indeed that,a full blown affair with due reverence. This was because someone had mentioned how they thought it had become a bit of a let down, viz the organisation etc.The thing is it ended up with me getting all emotional about sacrifice etc and frankly i sounded like a blubbering idiot (nowt new then) so i thought id save myself the embarrasment and take it off

Gregg's was a sweet shop called The Chocolate Box when I lived at Bramham & Gale. My parents were caretakers at B&G from the mid-1950s until the company merged with Hollis & Webb in 1969 and moved to the corner of King Street and Park Place.I think there's a march-past every year, by the way, after the main Remembrance ceremony - I sort of assumed it would be happening this year.

The dear lad kindly sent me some dvd's last year, butunfortunately I was just off camera on them Grrr!I promise to take me shopping bags home first! I agree about the band being a bit sub standard last year! However, you can't really expect a local 'Pickles and Gastrick'brass band to have the same military feeling and disciplineas the Royal Marines! The main trouble,as with all bands at the front of the parade, is the town 'acoustics'. Echos from differentbuildings especially when the people 100 yds behind hear a double drum beat when the band has 'wheeled' down a road at rightangles to the following parade! Everyone starts doing the 'Palais Glide' and changing step! We love it really!By the way,do you remember the Parade Marshall congratulatingus Veterans on our marching and bearing, after we haddismissed? That was behind the Oxford Place chapelI think.PS. Wouldn't it be great if we could have the Marines band??
