It's on Punch's transfer list and has suffered greatly for lack of a smoking place (the yard belongs to the Woolpack - [how that ever got Arts Council Funding is another story]). Seems a long long time now since I worked and socialised in Otley (1957 - 67) and I well remember a kindly landlady who had the Ring o' Bells in those days. She was always dressed in black and wore a resigned and sorrowful expression, but she was kindly and very civil - her name was Daisy Maloney (No she wasn't Swedish ) and we loved her
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The Spite/Roebuck has re-opened at last!!Called in today, thet have done a very nice job of it too!You would not recognise it if lead in blindfolded. All ales are local and on hand pulled draught plus some nice continental lagers. The food is very good pub food (a tad pricey?) and they made it clear they want to keep it as a pub and not just an eatery!!Will be going again!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The Black Horse is open yet again, but not sure now about Red Lion - cant keep up with these two!Rumour is that the White Swan will become a restaurant
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

The Black Horse (Otley) is open and doing well. Now run by the same folk who have the Dalesway (Star) in Ilkley. Good food too. The Askwith BH remains closed. The White Swan should re-open as a refurbished pub next week. To be run by the chap who has The Manor. The Red Lion is closed but being lived in by the last tenant who seems to be claiming squatter's rights.Best value pint has to be the Otley Tavern (Ringers) at £2.50. 4 on cask.

Somewhere on Bondgate she reckons (geography wasn't her best subject) and says it's small but "very nice".I don't think she means Wetherspoon's.Anyone know it and what it was in a previous life? Can't be Wetherspoons ,that was called the Bowling Green? Have a look through this thread from the beginning .Drapesy has put every pub on here!

It's the shop on the corner of Crossgate that was a real ale bottle shop briefly a couple of years ago with the round windows. They weren't impressed by my suggestion of Northerer Bar for a name.
