Here's a retro welcome to Leeds sign spotted hid from view behind some bushes (don't ask what i was doing there) It looks 1980's to me perhaps!

Can't read that bit either. Did a search to find this comment on http://www.flickr.com/photos/14344337@N00/51364127/" The Royal Mail horses, however, were not stabled here; they had their accomodation directly across the road in a building still standing and until recently used to have a fish and chip shop next to it. Definitely 60s/70s.There is one just outside Horsforth on Kirkstall road,i remember running past it, back in the direction of Leeds, as a very little kid after going up to Kirkstall Abbey and realising that i had left Leeds and wanted to get back.Even then i was a passionate loiner and didnt want to go any where else.i think there is also one between Leeds and Tong, the one you took is near the gypsey camp on the way to Gildersome,is that right?
Don't get me started!!My Flickr photos-http://www.flickr.com/photos/cnosni/Secret Leeds contactinfo@secretleeds.com

Phill_d wrote: After a good morning spent in Aberford yeasterday we were passing the White swan on our way back to Leeds when just by chance the landlord was opening up.. mmm a pint goes down well anytime. Anyway we had a good look around in the old part of the stables around the back of the pub. I was suprised to see this old sign.. A real blast from the past i'd like to know just how old it is! Phill - if you look at the bottom of page 5 of this threadyou'll see I've posted a pic of this sign asking for guesses as to where it was - no-one ever did and I'd forgotten all about it!The wording at the bottom says 'Post Hill' I Like the retro Owl signs - I think there's also still one on Otley Old Rd between Cookridge and Bramhope.

Here's a modern sign - but still a bit of an anachronism! These temporary signs were put up around Leeds in 1996 to direct people to Elland Road for the European Championship games of that year. This one on York Road(with 'Kremlin' in background) survives 11 years on!
