There are 2 nice face carvings on the building currently home to the '1871' bar and lounge (part of the Marriott Hotel) on Boar Lane (I think '1871' was 'John T's' until recentlyish). I wonder if anyone knows who the carvings are of? One seems to be the face of a man and the other may be that of a woman. The man does to me look it could be that of William Shakespeare. I have attached a photo of the man's face that I took on June 25 2013 (I was unable to get a clear shot due to the light fixture).I have found that the Marriott Hotel seems to be where the Trevelyan Temperance Hotel is marked on an 1891 map in the Old Maps UK website and in information I've found elsewhere it said that hotel was built between 1866 and 1870, so the carvings might date from then.

This is the photo (taken June 25 2013) of the face carving of what may be a woman. If my guess that the face of the man may be William Shakespeare then I wonder if this could be Anne Hathaway? A light fixture again stopped me getting a better view.

This photo (taken June 25 2013) shows the '1871' bar and Marriott Hotel on Boar Lane. The face of the man is above next to the bus stop and that of the woman is above and left of the people.
