Pubs worth celebrating

Were they built round about the same time, Drapesy? They have the same shallow pitch to the roof and semi-circular window, but the window surrounds are fancier on one than t'other. Same builder?

Same builder? I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised - they look to be from the same era and are quite typical of pubs built at the end of back to back terraces.

It is sam smith's - or at least it was in the 70's/80s/90s Yes it's still a Sammy Smith's pub, their bitter was never to my taste, much prefer The Regent's Tetley bitter, also I think The Regent is one of the few places that still sells Tetley mild.

The three Hunslet pubs mentioned ( Bay Horse, The Engine & The Prospect) were all old drinking haunts of mine back in the late 70's when I used to work up that way. All great traditional pubs with no pretence at all. Is the Parnaby Tavern still there ? It was on Middleton Road not far from the Peggy Tub Social Club which is on Woodhouse Hill. I had some great times in Hunslet back in the day.

The Victoria Hotel (behind the Town Hall) still does Tetley Mild, although it was "off" last time I was in.
