Cheers uncle mick for that interesting link. I thought (hope!) it would be of interest to add this section of the area that I've copied (enlarged a bit) from the 1892 1 to 2500 map in the Old-Maps UK website. The area was very countryside then. I wonder what the lodge with the large grounds was (or still is) in the top right?

This is the area in the 1908 1 to 2500 map in the Old-Maps UK website. It now has some built on areas but the northern extension of North Parade has yet to be done.

If you can dig out a map of the town hall before it was the town hall, it will show the east/ south parade areas and how the looked originally and fit into the landscape. It makes the names easier to understand when you see them laid out without all the subsequent streets....
