Corner site, often redeveloped

In the 80's it was a 'modern' office.Then demolished.Currently a building plot.

Correct BarnieOld 1903 advert I came across - full view here.I liked "apply to the Lift Attendant"

Hooray - I got one! The advert makes the chambers look a lot nicer than the real thing as shown on a couple of pictures on Leodis. There aren't enough lift attendants around nowadays.

No great loss when they decided to knock down City House then! Nice to see the old sorting office poking its head round the corner in the middle picture.

I think I can see a rope in front of the people on Boar Lane. Interesting to see graves and grass in Mill Hill church yard.

My 70 year old mince pies are not as good as they once were! I can remember standing looking down this hole myself in those days! I think there were some steps nr the corner of Boar Ln which led down to the Old Wine Lodge.A few of the lads I was with went in and there was a guy on a big Wurlitzer organ on a plinth. It was about the time of the tune Telstar ,very popular at the time.I asked him if he could play it. He replied," This thing will play it on it's own!"
