Where is Adel Dam?

I thought this zoomed-in photo (taken April 8 2013) of the breeched part at the overflow may be of interest. Some structure can be seen just behind the overflow. The zoomed-out view in my earlier post at 11:49:34 today is however deceptive as the area looks difficult (possibly even risky) to actually get closer to and will be even more so when the main vegetation growth spurt comes.PS. I see this thread is no longer in the 'Pub Names & What They Mean' group.

In information about history of Adel Dam that I have found in the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust website it states:-"The current dam.The current embankment is thought to have been constructed in the 18th century. The Adel Enclosure Award map of 1809 shows the dam with beck flowing in and goit flowing out. The ordnance survey maps up to 1930 indicate a measured water area of 7.368 acres.The outlet to the eastern end of the embankment formed the outfall to the goit and back to the original beck. Water can still be seen to be discharging as it was always intended to do back into the beck. The goit outfall is now closed. A chamber big enough for people to stand up in and possibly to maintain the channels and equipment is sited between both outfalls. The stone roof to this chamber also doubles as an overflow and would allow excess water to pass over or timber boards could be inserted into vertical grooves cut in the stone on each side to increase the water capacity in the dam."I did not know of the existence of a "chamber big enough for people to stand up in". Wow!

Cheers The Parksider. One thing I noticed about the Adel Dam lake when I was there on April 8 was that the water level was definitely lower than I usually see it, particularly for this time of year. With all the recently thawed snow I would have expected there would be a lot of water running out of Golden Acre Park (GAP) lake that runs into the Adel Dam lake, but if there was a lower flow from GAP I did not notice it.

Intrigued by Leo's mention of the interior of the Dam structure I had a look round.Looks unsafe but this seems to have been the original sluice with channels into the goit and a return flow to adel beck.

..2nd all looks dangerous as notes warn so zoom rather than be in there.
