Aristophanes Street was definitely an invention of Alan Plater, creator of the Beiderbecke Trilogy. The filming for The Beiderbecke Affair took place during the summer and autumn of 1984, so Hawes Place or wherever was given the Aristophanes Street tag whilst in its death throes for filming purposes. Mr Plater mentions Aristophanes Street in his 1985 novel of the series, The Beiderbecke Affair.

The box set trilogy is excellent value and a perfect antidote to the 'pap' that's on at the mo.Just as Billy Liar is 1960's Leeds / Bradford bottled at source, so this is great mid 80's.My kids might not agree 1st sentence..

Just watched the Youtube episode someone posted.I'd forgotten about those gold-metal school dinner water jugs.I still have Jill Swinburne as a (not so) weird crush.

She was recently seen in Just Henry a lot of which was filmed in and around Leeds and Scarborough (see other threads).

The street name plate looks authentic, however, Leeds name plates had the postal district in red on them.Funny how most, not all, the area's have disappeared. Just going across the border, down Lincolnshire way!
