Difficult to believe it's taken them 21 years to realise it's a cramped hell hole, but that is a bit of competition for you. And "Sheffield Stealers" - is that a typo? Or perhaps they were referring to their previous track records with public funds (PS, don't mention Don Valley Stadium...)

Jogon wrote: Sheffield may envy our shiny new Arena, but I kinda wish we'd taken their format:-Town Centre - swimming + leisure facility (Ponds Forge)Outskirts - Arena Outskirts Arena= no money spent by visitors in the local economy It may be a pain to park in the city centre but visitors will spend money in Leeds as well as going to the arena.I am going to 3 gigs in the next 12 months, one in Glasgow, one in Manchester and one in London. At all 3 i will be staying in a hotel, eating in a restaurant and drinking in a pub all within the locality, and i am pretty sure that i will be one of many who will be doing the same. That means money into and therefore jobs maintained/created in the local economy.Going to Sheffield,on the outskirts (similar to the N.E.C) i drive there and drive home, without spending anything on other than petrol and the ticket,so only the arena and the act benefit, not the city and people of Sheffield. Its not going to be perfect i know, but i think for the city as a whole it will be of benefit on many levels

Status Quo set to play at the arenahttp://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/lat ... 1-5563691I always remember Status Quo saying that after they had a hit with matchstick men, they couldn't write a hit song for love nor money. They were touring in Germany in 1970 and were in a bar when Roadhouse Blues by the Doors came on.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XWQrt00_NMThey sat and watched a bloke get up and dance with his girlfriend to it. Wow we've got to do some of that 12 bar blues stuff, and Rick Parfitt said we've been ripping off the Doors ever since

On the day that the Arena is officially handed over to the operators, this remarkable article appears in Billboard Magazine:http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/n ... watchCould it be that the hype is actually true and the council really have created a bona-fide winner for our city - and the only new venue outside North America rated by Billboard?
