Next time I object to a planning consultation I'll remind them of that. Sorry Cardiarms, there's no link yet to the quote. Soon though there should be an account of the meeting which I'll post a link to. Thanks

He'll be giving the talk again at 7pm on Monday the 25th March at the Heart centre on Bennett Road in Headingley. I attended February's talk. Alderman Townsley didn't have a single good word for the scheme. Asking as I dont know but what good is this? Does he have any influence on the scheme or any power to stop it?No sarcasm or wit intended, genuinely confused as to whether he can do something.

Leeds trolleybus charm missionhttp://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/lat ... 572512They must be getting really rattled about all the negativity surrounding their blunderous scheme of gigantic proportions to do this. As a completely disinterested party, I’d like to offer this thought.I’ve seen trolley buses [and trams too] in action in action in a few cities on the continent. The trolley busses seem to suffer the same problems as normal busses; no segregated path and caught up in traffic, even with “dedicated” bus lanes.Trams on the other hand, even where they are not on segregated track, seem to command a much greater amount of respect and certainly other vehicles keep their distance from them. This came to mind the other day having been on the tram in Croydon where it runs slap bang down the middle of the street and, later the same day, when on the bus home and all 70 odd of us passengers on the bus came through Camden at the same speed as the mad [edited for content] on the push bike in front, behind whom, we were well and truly stuck!

Good, the negativity and pressure must be hitting the mark. Leeds trolleybus bosses aim to counter opposition.* Opponents are attempting to paint the trolleybus team as unprofessional and liars*http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 287They've missed the part off where I call them corrupt too. They've got the incompetent liars part right though Leeds City Council have only got away with their incompetence over the years because there was no internet and social media. Now the advance of technology has caught them up, people can tell the truth they are hiding, and spread the proper word and facts. They've got away with doing what they please regardless of public opinion for far too long. They are supposed to be working for the people of Leeds, now the people of Leeds have a big voice to tell them just how much they are not working for the people of Leeds.

As Paul Weller sang, "the public want what the public get" - and the burghers at Civic Hall seem determined to convince us all that this is the greatest transport solution since the invention of the wheel - despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary. There are Orwellian forces at work here - a scheme that almost no-one outside the council and Metro wants, yet they plough on regardless safe in the unshakable knowledge that "they" know best.

Have to laugh at one of the last comments on this story, it sums it up perfectly *Well, councillor Lewis - that went well, didn't it ?32 comments so far and only one - from some syphilitic chap who appears to work for Metro or the Council - in support.Scrap it now before you waste any more of our money.http://community.yorkshireeveningpost.c ... 7898257037

Okay so us living in South Leeds and Morley, who will have no benefit from this folleybus are thick. Thank you LCC.Here was something that the minimum height of 7m or 23' in English money.1. Neville Street will be too low, as there is a minimum distance above too.2. Any work which is on a railway bridge, ie all of those in Leeds, has to be managed by Network Rail as these are their assets, extra cost.3. Crossing the River Aire. Where? Unable to use Neville St/Victoria St, high winds and lack of gauge. Leeds Bridge might not be structurally strong enough. Crown Point Rd means using the access under the railway at Duke St and limited access. 4. To avoid all this a route via Marsh Ln and then onto S. Accomodation Rd. Which has nothing there! Then there are power requirements. Using a DC system with 2 overhead wires needs more sub stations and neutral sections. A limit will exist on each section as to the number of folleybuses that can be run. So a limit will be in place from the design stage as to passenger numbers. Not a problem with using buses. Also this will require extra signalling for the folleybuses, to allow their use of a section.No-one has mentioned stabling and maintenance of the folleybuses. They will require a new facility as the present tiny little place on a windy road used by Worst isn't suitable. Who will pay for that, hopefully the folleybus operator, not council tax payers.Breakdowns. Any new vehicle and support will do this. Initially it will be very common. A broken down folleybus will cause major disruption of the road system. How are they to be towed and recovered? Also power outages, come Winter this will be another issue. Icing of overhead lines overnight. I could go on but hopefully some-one brings these to the fore. The Headingley corridor is congested because historically West Park, Cookridge and Tinshill were built by LCC to take people out of the city centre slums to new housing. So now these places need access to the jobs which are either in the centre or across the centre. There isn't one solution to this. It has to be planned and involve many different idea's and schemes. Something that the short term politico's of the 21st century are unable to see.
