All this subteraenea stuff is really exiting.I always advocated draining the canals from city centre to the suburbs and introducing a light rail system into a station at Granary Wharf area. The drainage issue would have been a problem but not insurmountable. In 1944 four connected underground tram stations were proposed for central Leeds at North Street , Briggate . City Square and Corn Exchange .

There must be something still dovn there I would have thought? I think you'd need Time-team to dig anything up. This whole area has completely changed since the 1950's - The New Peacock, the adjacent houses, works, shops and Holbeck C.C.s old Cricket ground have all long gone. Lowfields road doesn't even go anywhere anymore
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Once the problem is resolved [ shortly ] I'll send it .

On the 4th October 1957 when all sevice cars had returned to the deopt these 2 ex London Felthams make there last fatefull journey to Lowfiels road scrap yard. Here 562 which had been out of service for some considerable time drags sister car 539 by a length of chain out of Great Wilson street into Meadow lane. Both cars are at a virtual standstill, 562's wheel spinning furiously, motors howling with enough noise to wake the dead at half past midnight for good measure! Sand is been pumped onto the rails to try gain adhesion.

The morning after the night before. With unseemly haste the torch is put to the trams. By 1957 with the end in sight for the Leeds trams no canabilisation of spares took place with perfectly good running examples condemned this way.

Here we see 2 ex Felthams bought by Leeds that were never refurbished or used by the L.C.T. They spent many years stored in Kirkstall depot gathering dust. Ex London 2135 is the leading car.
