The council's Executive Board this afternoon gave its support to the follybus.Dismissing the massive public opposition to the scheme, Councillor Richard Lewis (head of Highways) said it was "important to respect the views of those who have not expressed an opinion."Richard Lewis is the telepath at the back of the bus:http://leedstrolleybus.org/

How predicatably dispiriting. Do you have a link to that quote, it's a wonderful piece of tortured logic. Next time I object to a planning consultation I'll remind them of that.

Quite apart from my 44 year career "on the buses" I am also an ardent transport enthusiast and therefore fascinated by the study of all forms of public transport. Nevertheless I can also put enthusiasm totally aside in a serious current discussion (oh heck, no pun intended)and I despair at any consideration of spending this amount of money, and the disruption it will cause, on what is virtually a single short routeThe parties concerned have very short memories indeed - and have already swept under the carpet the "ftr" purple slug maniac scheme with "pilots in cockpits on flight decks" and originally unplanned "customer service hosts" (conductors). The embarrassment of what to do with the giant monstrosities appears to trouble no one as they seek to find a use for the ill conceived things - the latest two brainwaves being to use them as "duplicates" on the number 1 route in Leeds, and the indescribable farce of reintroducing crew operation on the 72 route to Bradford - some of the "dark blue slugs" for this fiasco being taken by transporter to the north east to be expensively refurbished (at under six years old) by an outside contractor. I just wonder if Mr. Mulholland and the rest are even aware of these financial scandals.    I really do despair !!

I dont know about being head of highways i think he must have banged his head on the highway.

I'm building up my disgust for a full scale scathing rant later. Meanwhile we need some keywords to help us find threads on S.L later. Now let me think of a good few tags and keywords for L.C.C on this debacle... huhm.*Lack of foresight, ineffective, appeasers, disorganised, underachievers, shambles, puppets to higher government, limp, lame, lack of fight, spineless, cowards, no fight, no ambition, pathetic*

The SL foul words removal may limit your any "full scale scathing rant later" Phill.

To Phill's excellent list of tags may I add (long phrase admittedly) :-"Absolutely no conception of the detailed costs and nature of transport operation."

How very Kafkaesque...Lets not forget of course the fine job Cllr Dick Lewis (Head of Highways) is doing keeping the roads of Leeds free of potholes and craters. When are the next local elections? Time for a clear out methinks.

Sorry Cardiarms, there's no link yet to the quote. Soon though there should be an account of the meeting which I'll post a link to.

Transport consultant Don Townsley gave a talk on the follybus back in February to a packed hall. He'll be giving the talk again at 7pm on Monday the 25th March at the Heart centre on Bennett Road in Headingley. I attended February's talk. Alderman Townsley didn't have a single good word for the scheme.
