Learn something new everyday - having been born and bred in Huddersfield I had no idea the twin masts were known as Moorside Edge, we grew up knowing them as Pole Moor which is the name of the closest village. salt 'n pepper wrote: Entertaining stuff everyone.Next stage then. What about a photograph of Leeds from the other direction?Easy enough to get to the top of Jubilee Tower on Castle Hill at the other side of Huddersfield. Only I don't even know if you could see over the top from there. Having been lucky enough in the past to actually go to the top of the tower at Castle hill I can tell you there is very little you can see of Leeds from there as its hidden behind the ridge that runs through Driglington, Gildersome etc, about the best you can see is Birstall retail park.Whenever I come down Whitehall Rd into Leeds I am always drawn to the fact that after passing the Woodcock you can get some good views along the Aire valley of the power stations out that way.Likewise from certain parts of Pudsey you can see both Ferrybridge and Eggborough power stations on a clear day.

Got some photos of the big wheel lit up tonight Leo. It looks far out of town from this direction. The direction it's facing doesn't make it look very impressive either. One thing I did notice tonight, that I've not see before is the music arena appears to be partly lit up. Half of it seems to be lit up red and green. I can't make out West Riding house these days (now The Pinnacle) Sometimes it's lit up, sometimes not, it appears not tonight, although it was red on Valentines day. It's very hazy tonight, and not the best for clear shots.

That is a great shot Phill (and nicely labelled). Night time shots can be very difficult to get well enough. On clear nights Leeds looks very impressive all lit up when seen from high ground. It has come cloudied over now but it was clear earlier tonight and just before 19:00 I watched the International Space Station (ISS) as a moving 'star' pass from west to south and passing just below (visually speaking!) the Moon and a bright Jupiter. The ISS crew will have some great night views.

Then it will have to be from the top of Emley Moor like I said in the earlier post.Is that possible? To gain access I mean.Who's volunteering?

This is what I could see tonight. The first testing of the exterior light display.

I've got a good view of this twin structure from my house. It is not a pair of masts, I have no doubts at all that it is in fact a pair of chimneys. They are the tall chimneys at Ferrybridge power station. I looked last night and checked again in daylight this morning and I'm absolutely sure that's what they are. Unless there are two illuminated twin structures, then I might be wrong!

Ferrybridge is South East, and a good 180 degrees in the other directionhttp://goo.gl/maps/OqKob
