Not much about trolley-buses here:http://www.applrguk.co.uk/#It really is a case of 'if we can't have a tram, do something!'

A superb demonstration of the wise old saying "a picture says a thousand words."This excellent drawing says it all - the Headingley NGT proposal is ill thought out and to all who know the area and its traffic charachertistics can bring no benefit or practical functioning whatsoever.I for one, in my very advanced years, (Moaning old git in common parlance) sincerely hope that it never comes off - especially at the ludicrous price for one isolated basic route.V. In an article on page 25 of today's YEP it reports that Council chiefs "are being urged to spend more than £19m to help bridge a funding gap in the landmark trolleybus scheme". The article reports "The £250m project...would be paid for mainly by central Government although Leeds City Council and Metro are expected to foot a £57m bill" (it was not clear if the latter figure includes the amount to bridge the funding gap). If the scheme does go ahead I shudder to think what the actual final cost will be, with what I think will be an inevitable cost rise (not just inflationary). This is a link to the online report in the YEP website:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-5471957

The artists impression in the report shows, that as suspected, it will be a double articulated bus. Might be artists error but there are no doors in the centre section.

£57 million from the council and Metro?Which is incredibly close to the £55 million the council claim they need to save due to "government cuts" and are planning to close a load of old folks homes to pay for it....Only in 21st century Britain has society descended to such depths that a white elephant vanity project for a handful in Civic Hall takes precedent over care for the elderly.LCC, you are a disgrace.

Well said there raveydavey - as one already far past the famous "three score years and ten" warranty period, and having no relations anyway, I may well find myself in need of some kind of help - although I sincerely hope not. The thought of being able to nip out for a ride on a superfast trolleybus with ample comfortable accommodation for everyone will be of little solace to those without a decent, if humble, roof over their heads and the ability to make a cup of tea !!
