Well you only had to glance at the brits last night to see how poor the music is today compared to the 90s never mind before that ,mediocre acts cashing in on a quick payday. I cant help but think that the majority of groups today are produced on a production line in hong kong, gone are the days of originality and raw musical talent.

I think there are still plenty of good bands around - we go to gigs and festivals regularly - but they're just not the kind who'll show up at the Brits or ever fill arenas. The smaller venues in Leeds such as the Brudenell and the Cockpit still seem to be pretty busy - and, of course, the tickets are cheaper than the arena ones will be. Good that we've got the arena now too though - always good to have more options!

That said do you think you'll ever see a concert in there?I mean with yours and my taste in music our rock legend heroes died 30 years ago at least. And if their not dead, they weren't there in the first place lol Nearly all dead. Would have gone for springsteen but will be on my jollies. Surely there must be somebody still around who you might darken the doors of the Leeds Arena for.I have an idea what you mean by rock legend heroes but just moving the goalposts an inch or two what about Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Jackson Browne or Van Morrison? Or Joe Cocker as long as he brings the Grease Band with him and leaves the romantic balladry at home. Or how about an evening riding with the undisputed King? BB to be exact. Or from a later era, Annie Lennox? Or even Fleetwood Mac. I would pay the entrance money just to hear an extended rendition of "I'd rather go blind" sung perfectly by Christine McVie.Of the more recent batch, surely Coldplay might get you to think about going along because it's so close. Bellowhead might not fill the place but they are a great live band. And God Bless the Brudenell LeedsLily. Georgie Fame on May 21.One necessary evil about arenas. Size and scale. Going back to the Boss, saw him at Manchester Apollo in 1981 from the comfort of the seventh row. I bet i wouldn't be that close near the Little Londoner.

King, Van Morrison, and Fleetwood Mac, the rest you couldn't drag me there to see screaming. Especially Coldplay Yes of course they're are still some big bands about, but they are all the old bands who pull in the crowds like you've stated. This new stuff is chart hit one year, 50p bargain bin fodder the next. It is great news for Leeds of course, I just feel the arena has certainly missed the heydey of live concerts really. The old acts won't be around for ever, and nothing is coming through to ever replace them with the same long standing pedigree.

Bit unfair on the female of the species earlier on mentioning just Annie and Christine Perfect. What about Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt or Natalie Merchant? On Natalie, what a reunion concert that would be. Impossible to get all the original 10,000 Maniacs together anymore on account of Robert Buck being dead, but as far as I know the band are still on the go in some form or other. Included later as a PS:Here is the delightful Natalie reprising a little ditty from an ephemeral sixties combo....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNKyT_J7Eew

I used to pass it occasionally but as far as I recall I never used its checking facility. Cough please. Oops, sorry, that's for something else!

He is quite some guitar player and has moved up from the mid sized venues to the larger ones.Phils points about music are spot on, and dwindling numbers of bands who can sellout the big arenas are worrying.Maybe the smaller sized venue such as leeds is the way forward.
