I know you've been a long standing campaigner for the music arena csnosi. That said do you think you'll ever see a concert in there?I mean with yours and my taste in music our rock legend heroes died 30 years ago at least. And if their not dead, they weren't there in the first place lol

(boom, boom - the old ones are still the best.)

It's great news we finally get a music arena, and by the sounds of things it sounds state of the art. Lit up last night it certainly reminded me of this.Looking pretty good. I can't help but feel though by 2013 Leeds has really missed the boat. The groups being able to pull in a 13,000 crowd getting thinner on the ground such is the state of the music industry today. If people don't realise just how much the music industry has died off. I watched a program the other day about the decline of the Long playing record, not just vinyl, but the L.P as a format either on acetate or C.D.The great selling L.P was the holy grail for a band, heavily promoted and produced massive sales. You only need to look at Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the moon. That album remained in the charts for a staggering 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988, with an estimated 50 million copies sold. Those kind of albums becoming a part of history really.Yet the last great year, the absolute pinnacle of the album was way back in 1977. The importance, and popularity of the Album record would never reach those dizzy heights again. Album sales have declined drastically over the years. With the introduction of arcade games, video recorders, and the Sony Walkman in the late 70's and early 80's. The once revered album you saved up for, and carefully took out of it's sleeve to play. Every word read on the album cover, all the band photos scrutinised. Doting fans found more things to do and spend their money on. Being able to copy songs on to tape helping to bring about the albums decline in sales. The album slowly lost it's appeal. I think it's pretty evident with today's internet downloads, where you can save single songs to your I tune player or whatever they are called. And the state of the manufactured bands coming through, that the day of the live concert itself has had it. Just my opinion of course, but I'd like to read this thread again in 20 years time. Perhaps we could once again store the trolley buses in the music arena when it's closed?

That's a fun thought Phill about the trolly buses. Swinegate was of course a tram shed that for a while later became the Queen's Hall music shed (sorry, arena) so there is a reverse precedent!
