I've heard that story before, Lee. I was never quite sure if it wasn't just a myth. Next you'll be telling me the A1 went down Wetherby High Street. Now there's a thought.

On the subject of the A65, through Horsforth it's called New Road Side. Does anyone know how it got that name, like is it something that ran alongside a new road? From Kirkstall Abbey onwards it was a turnpike road. Was there an older route up to Rawdon, Yeadon and Guisley that it replaced? The oldest map on Old Maps is from 1851 so it's difficult to tell what was there before.
