The "rough" land on the far side is almost the same length as the block of house behind it, so it looks like a spoil heap from a cleared row of houses. As for the green space, I'd hazard a guess that that is slum clearance land from a few years earlier judging by the way the road stops dead. There's another slum clearance area bordered by Wellington Rd, Copley St and Green Lane. Could it be somewhere roughly between where Bruce Gardens and Clyde Gardens are now, looking towards the school? This area on Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/mU8LV

Fencing encloses an area of grassed land and there is a view across to more terraced streets in the background. The only place in Armley that this looks like was an area behind the current sports centre, between Armley Town St and Wingate Junction ?

Just to bring this to a close, they've sorted this out on LEODIS.It's Clark Mount in the Richmond Hill area. That's the far Eastern bit of Armley. The street is still the same today.

They really should be more careful at Leodis. Without 'proof' it was Armley it shouldn't have been asserted as such.Clark Mount fits -ish. That house at the end's been altered in the intervening years by the look of it.

On Google Streetview: http://goo.gl/maps/pMRBt where it looks like the house at the end is an old bin store that has been built up into an extension.Looking at Old Maps, the field was a mixture of plastic brick works and some sort of coal mine and quarry until it was reused as the site of Richmond Hill primary school. Given that the photo was taken in 1969, I wonder if it was taken as part of a site survey. The old school has since been torn down and rebuilt. There's a photo on Leodis at http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL which was taken diagonally opposite at the junction of Easy St and Temple View roughly here: http://goo.gl/maps/CvFl5

[quotenick="mhoulden"]. Given that the photo was taken in 1969, I wonder if it was taken as part of a site survey. Most of these "Can you help" photos were taken by Eric Jaquier who was a door to door salesman.http://www.projectspaceleeds.org.uk/eri ... e.aspxSome photos here http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/content/imag ... lery.shtml    http://www.ericjaquier.ch/strangely_fam ... iliar.html

Copy of part of e-mail fro Leodis which explainswhy they thought it was ArmleyAs many of you recognised, it turned out not to be Armley at all but Clark Mount in the Richmond Hill area - so sorry you were given a Red Herring! Thanks to those of you who took the trouble to check it against Google Maps which is proof beyond doubt that Clark Mount is the correct location. The photographer, Eric Jaquier, was only in Leeds for one year (in 1969) and took many photographs around the city. The CD he sent us had this one labeled as the Armley area but perhaps as it is well over 40 years ago his memory was a little hazy!I will correct the text accordingly and it should be updated on the website by tomorrow morning.

Geordx - bit harsh love.In fairness to the good folk at Leeds Library Service..Leodis is one of the better 'local shots' collections in the uk.Great that they brought these in.And if they get a stack of old, long since demolished images that say Armley or Meanwood or whatever then what are they s'posed to do?+ it gives SL folks a ready made stack of W&W's and keeps 'em busy and out of trouble. As a local ratepayer I wouldn't want them to set out for the day by car hoping to recognise locations as they drive around. It's what SL is for. So has this one been found and if so is there a current google view please?
