I remember APX too - their piccallili was superb - great big chunks of gherkin and whole onions and the bright yellow colour that could stain a tank-top at ten paces- not like these wishy-washy beige sauces that pass for piccallili these days!!! eee them wert days...
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Some street signs nowadays are in a terrible state of repair with the name almost faded to nothing or the paint cracked and peeling. As a child I can clearly remember watching a sign-writer putting a fresh coat of paint on our street sign.It required a certain versatility, our street sign was 18 inches off the ground but in the next street it was 15 feet up the side of a house.

Your right about that Stevie. I reckon you'd be hard pushed to find one in a worse state than this one. It's Grove Avenue, Headingley if you can find it that is

Hi Hollywood! You can go off people you know!I spotted that one yesterday going to town and thought I'd get a pic later! No camera with me of course!!!!Can't understand why I never saw it before as I lived just up Westfield cres, in the Rosebanks and went to school next door to itjust past the shops! That was 1937 to 1947!!!(See my Rosebanks postings earlier in the year).Amazing what you miss by not looking up!I remember that shop was a chemist (Sleights?) in those daysand Herbert Brown had a pawnshop/general goods store on the corner of Hollis St and Burley road and opposite the school which was still Burley Road council school in those days Not Rosebannk primary as it is now. Perhaps Browns move across to Westfield Crescent corner later! Lots happen in 60 yrs!Have you posted before on SLeeds? If not- Welcome!Arry AwkPS Herbert Brown is still trading onEasgate!

After a good morning spent in Aberford yeasterday we were passing the White swan on our way back to Leeds when just by chance the landlord was opening up.. mmm a pint goes down well anytime. Anyway we had a good look around in the old part of the stables around the back of the pub. I was suprised to see this old sign.. A real blast from the past i'd like to know just how old it is!
