The section of this thread discussing the first railway into Leeds has become a little confused, so I have checked the following from the reference section of "A Regional History of the Railways of Great Britain, Volume 8, South and West Yorkshire". Dates of Acts of Parliament and all opening and closing dates to both goods and passenger traffic are to be found there.Opened to passenger traffic dates:-Marsh Lane, Leeds and Selby Rly, 22 Sept. 1834.Hunslet Lane, North Midland Rly, 11 May 1840.Leeds Wellington, Leeds and Bradford Rly, 1 July 1846.Leeds Central, GNR, L&NWR, L&YR, Leeds and Thirsk Rly, temporary station opened 18 Sept. 1848, permanent station opened Aug.1857Leeds New (the present station) 1 April 1869.                                 --------------------Ever since they were opened, confusion has arisen by Leeds Wellington being in City Square, and Leeds Central being in Wellington Street! The old Marsh Lane terminus closed on 1 April 1869 (replaced by a replacement station on the through line to Leeds City, which was later itself closed).Hunslet Lane passenger station closed "on or about 28 Feb. 1851" and the remaining goods yard on 3 Jan. 1972.Leeds Wellington, later known as Leeds City North, closed to passengers on 13 June 1966, but remained as a parcels facility for about twenty years or so. Most of it is now a car park, but its old platform 6 is now incorporated as platform 1 of the present station.Leeds Central closed 1 May1967.So by my reckoning the first station in central Leeds was Wellington/City North in City Square, which extended SW from the surviving Art-Deco concourse of the present station.

Changes afoot for this monument, extract from a new planning application below - seems quite emphatic about continuing no public access, shame but in time to come perhaps. . . .'The Viaduct is a piece of redundant historical, English Heritage listed transport infrastructure adjacent to the mainline into Leeds Rail StationThe planning application is for the temporary redefinition of the viaduct from redundant heritage to cultural platform. This is a proposal to temporarily redefine the viaductas an outdoor architecture/ art / sculpture plinth. The viaduct will be host to a public art programme, which would exist whilst Lend Lease the owners prepare for the implementation of their consented development. The programme of interventions will highlight the viaduct, to create an unusual platform for art and architecture and contribute to the cultural activity of the citythroughout 2013 / 2014.Public access will not be permitted, the art works will be visible from afar; the road, the railway, adjacent buildings and be part of the city skyline. This process begins with an initial installation called Living Wild.'

Parking a Class 37 on it would be eye-catching. There's a few lingering outside York at the moment.
