I remember its exterior. Its dubious reputation ensured I never ventured in.

i believe it was next door to today's Carphone Warehouse.is it true it was men only?

The Mitre has two threads of it's own on here. Using MITRE in the search utility brings up about half a dozen threads with information about the pub.Too tender an age to remember it myself.

I could be mistaken, it was a long time ago, but I think you went down a flight of stairs into The Mitre. It was of course situated where everyone on here says and I'm pretty sure it was men only.
