LAY=FULLit is a cash machine today I can't see a pub in the photo, but there used to be a pub down there called 'The Hogshead'. It was a cellar bar and done out by Tetleys Brewery in a 'Vittle Inn' style. This was a tiled/flagged floor with wooden tables and benches. Food was available at meal times, but it was basically a 'boozer' - or at least it was when I went in during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Other 'Vittle Inns' were 'The West Riding' on Wellington Street and 'The Deer Park' on Street Lane.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

It later became Oscar's (you are correct as well, Drapesy!), and is now Mr Benn's Comedy Club.

I can't recall it being called the Bond, but that's what it was probably called as Tasa rightly says before they renamed it Oscars. That was when I went in there with the misses in the mid to late 80's.It was quite a cosy place with sofa type seating, dim lights, and down some long steps. The only other place I remember where you went down stairs to a bar in that era was called Ostlers. That was near the back entrance of Marks and Sparks, and I always got confused which one was which

No. Yes Phill, The Bond was only ever called The Bond as far as I know, and Oscar's was the renamed Vittle Inn on the other side of the road. You're right about the Ostler's though (behind M&S)!
