This started life in Kirkgate Fishmarket but,Letters to the EditorLeeds Mercury Friday 11 June 1880"...The fountain in the Market has proved not only a nuisance, but a lounging place for loafers, and a play-thing for all the ragged urchins in the district...."It was moved to the front of the Town Hall which was then Victoria Square with Park Lane less than the current width of the Headrow. It was some 35 Feet tall and the plume of water often soaked passers by.It was removed in about 1905 and replaced by the stature of Queen Victoria which is now sited on Woodhouse Moor. It was 'put into storage' and never heard of again.Reward of a few pints for info about it's fate or whereabouts.(above image-thanks to Dr John Bradley of the Alfred Seaman Archive)approx current viewhttp://goo.gl/maps/xkdv1    Finally during the process of removal.

Great pictures, Jogon. And a great fountain. There is a possibility that it may be rediscovered. The fountain that was once sited near where Murgatroyd's is in Yeadon, was found in use on the seafront at Lytham St Annes, so there's always hope!

Well i think it would be far more acceptable than having the traffic cutting in front of,though of course it would be a traffic nightmare
