Yes it started as the Leeds Playhouse and became the West Yorkshire Playhouse when the new theatre was built on Quarry Hill, I think because the old West Yorkshire Met Council provided the funding. There's a history and a list of old productions at the back of this pdf but none seem to match what is on the advert:http://www.leeds.ac.uk/library/spcoll/h ... yhouse.pdf

Firstly I missed the obvious that the advert on the bus said Leeds Playhouse doh!!Secondly a list, probably not comprehensive of comets that is likely to be more accurate in living memoryhttp://www.weatherfriend.com/astronomy/comet/c ... ml#1941The Playhouse opened in 1970 and LCT ceased to exist in 1974. So we can probably put the photo at between 1969 and 1974. If the does genuinely include a cometY1 Bennet 1969/70 possibly a bit early for Playhouse adverts and does the comet in the picture have 2 tails?White-Ortiz-Bolleli 1970 Only seen in the Southern Hemisphere rules this outKohoutek 1973/4. Looks our most likely candidate as the next comet was 1976 when this vehicle and livery were surely no longer on the road.Kohoutek was visible from November 73 to January 74 which makes, from Cardi's link, the Playhouse advert forKnight in Four ActsBeauty and the BeastParadise Hotelor at a pinch The Good Woman of Setzuan or Death of a Salesman both starting early March 1974 http://www.leodis.net/playbills/item.as ... 707400#I'm assuming Canterbury Tales, Richard III and possibly Knight in Four Acts were long gone by Autumn 73. Of course it may not have been for a play at all as the Playhouse was used as exhibition space (I'm sure I saw a NASA exhibition there as a kid).

Death of a Salesman was one of the two occasions that me and Mrs S&P went along to enjoy the output of the Leeds Playhouse. And I don't remember seeing a comet as we walked back down into the town. The other occasion was Tim Hardin's gig there and I don't remember when that was. I do remember that the artist was a little worse for wear and many of the audience walked out. But not us. He may have seen quite a few comets that night. Inside the auditorium. In my opinion - and let me tell you that counts for absolutely nothing at all - the album 'Suite for Susan Moore and Damion : We are One, One, All in One' is a masterpiece.

FURTHER ASPECTS OF THE "PURPLE SLUG" SAGAOne or two more hilarious (or would be if it wasn't so serious) items have recently been reported by observers. As we know, these vehicles are only around five years old and therefore do not need repainting, and certainly don't warrant the reupholstering of the seats in grey leather - but both measures have been taken. At least two have been done by outside contractors in Ashington, Northumberland, and how expensive to drive them there you might rightly think - so they were taken by low loader !! Training runs were conducted in recent weeks and the electronic destination screens showed - I'm NOT kidding - "PILOT TRAINING." The new vynils on the sides indicate that the service is now known as "HYPERLINK." Above the side windows are vinyls showing, in case any of we thick folks can't read a destination blind, all the intermediate suburbs along this "extremely long and unfamiliar" route. As we know, a dummy run one Sunday established that the monsters could not be reversed in Leeds Bus Station and so the terminus was altered to Eastgate. I have heard that they cannot safely negotiate the tight roundabout to turn round, and therefore now shoot into the Bus Station and via the through lane without stopping to access Eastgate.Added to the expensive and un-necessary refurbishment saga there is also the cost of employing conductors, yes conductors - I make no apology for using such an unfashionable slang expression !!If this outfit was still a Local Government department, answerable to the ratepayers, the entire Transport Committee would be made to walk the plank !!

Surely they've rebranded and promoted the clippie to a travelling steward these days Blakey? HYPERLINK.. what a pathetic attempt at saying, you still have nothing but buses for transport in Leeds!I despair Public Transport Experience!!    Perhaps they'll build a guided Folly bus route between the two cities next, and to make it as practical as ever, they could build Leeds bus lanes at 4' gauge, and Bradford's at 4ft 8.5in like they did with the trams. All change at Pudsey-where the trams travel backwards

Join the "DESPAIR" Club Phill - the whole performance really is like a bad dream Travelling stewards or customer service hosts - they are still conductors, and of course the long established 72 route has always been a very satisfactory service indeed. I hope you won't mind my mentioning but the Bradford tramways were the narrow guage, and the Leeds lines the more standard "railway" 4'8.5" - still, I suppose it depends which way you look at it !!

Would it be frowned upon to point out that the Leeds -> Bradford Interchange rail line follows more or less the route of the 72, takes half an hour less, and is cheaper for a day return? Even if you don't live close to Bramley or New Pudsey it's quicker to change to the train when the bus goes past a station.I know we're due to get a load of surplus buses transferred from the Olympics so it'll be interesting to see how long the ftrs last until they get moved somewhere else. I daresay First will keep trying them on different routes until they finally wear out and go for scrap.

A slug passed me heading towards Bradford at about 6.30 at owlcoates. It had four people on it. At peak time I would have expected more.
