I worked with Melvin the landlord who had it in the 70's and 80's.It was a very good pub in those days. Melvin and Shirley had it when I drank in there. Beautiful pint of Tetley's mild in them days - and tuppence cheaper in the tap room. Do you remember Willie, the glass collector?

Just came across this post about Brahms and Liszt, a real ale pub on East Parade in the 1970s. The video is sort of related, about a trip on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line in the 1970s. Does anyone remember it? http://boakandbailey.com/2012/10/a-pub- ... ace-novel/

I remember both. The t.v. series Nairn across Britain was great and in a similar vein at the time were Betjeman's Six English Towns and later Six More English Towns. Brahms & Liszt was a place I visited once or twice around 1974/5 ? It was in a cellar with along bar with many handpumps. They served food on 'planks' or wooden plates and I seem to remember a darts marathon taking place. I remember trying Old Peculier and Timmy Taylors Ram Tam which made a change from the ubiquitous Tetleys. The Eagle tavern on North Street was another place that sold 'unusual' beers at the time. Still preferred a pint of 'mixed' in the Cattle Market or Smyths Arms both on Gelderd Road or the Regent at Chapel Allerton though !
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy

It was unusual for having real ale - quite a rarity at the time. Also , this being the era of indoor league I suppose, there were lots of pub games available, shove hapenny, bar billiards, skittles etc.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.
