Surviving Leeds city transport buses

The offical colours on the WYPTE buses was Verona Green and Buttermilk. I'm not sure how I know this, but I do...As a kid I went on an open day at one of their depots and they were giving away all the old transfers from the buses. I got a "Passenger must not stand forward of the centre door or distract the driver without good reason" one which I prompty stuck to the up in my room. Wish I'd kept it, it'd be worth a fortune now (not!)

I know how you feel Ravey. It wouldn't have been any great find on the antiques road show but it would have been good to keep for a momento all the same. I'm afraid i did the same thing as a kid with a leather football signed by hot shot Lorimer, Alan Clarke & Jack Charlton no less. Why oh why did i not listen to my mum & go kick it outside

This is the best cab shot i could get in one of the back loaders. It's Leyland titan 214. There very confined spaces in the cabs. I bet the drivers were glad of the terminus to get out, stretch there legs & have a fag with the clippie!

I noticed this Limited stop switch sign in the cab. I'm not sure what it was for. Any ideas?

perhaps it turned off the bell so no one could request to get off a limited stop service!! maybe! i dunno!

It illuminated a sign ( attached to the underside of the upper deck on the nearside of the bus ) which read " Limited " .When the " Limited " sign was silluminated it meant that the bus was an express service and its first stop would be somewhere near its destination .For example a " Limited " service from Leeds city centre to Seacroft would not stop until it reached South Parkway .

Thanks for that Roundheigen... There used to be another unusual thng on the roller blind it displayed 'DUPLICATE' i forget the story behind that too. I'll dig it out i think it was in the Leeds trams 1950-59 book unless someone else knows of course, Which i'm sure they will

An additional bus not on the timetable usually running at " peak " periods .A 5.30pm service from Leeds city centre to say Morley might have a second or duplicate bus at that time to cope with large numbers of people leaving work .

This is the picture with the story on. The furthest bus on the right displays duplicate on the roller blindQuote... Those old enough to remember the late great comedian Albert Modley may notice the bus on the right displays it's going to duplicate. Albert used to use this in one of his sketches using a drum kit as a pretend tram controller...What does going to duplicate mean? The same thing again or some Leeds suburb i've never heard of thats for sure :-/Cross posting mate. You answered my question before i posted itGreat stuff! Anyway the pic & story is up now!

Tried to crop & enlarge the picture but there wasn't the technology of 10 mill pixel digital cameras in those days for good quality!

The attached photograph ( if I succeed in sending it ) shows the new Leeds City Transport Logo ( post-1968 ) on a Roe-bodied Daimler CVG6 fleet number 512 ( subsequently changed to 712 ) .The logo is sited forward of the offside rear wheel-arch . It was ultimately decided to place the offside logo on the bottom side panel immediately behind the driver's door .Note also the " Duplicate " box to the right ( as you look at the photograph ) of the driver's cab .
