That's great to see Jogon, thanks. There are a few of those old type stables in the surrounding streets. I particularly like some of the old house names you see on Jackson Avenuehttp://goo.gl/maps/KTbevhttp://goo.gl/maps/8mqT1

BrunelThat is excellent - I've enjoyed some of your other then&nows elsewhere (can't remember where but a link would be appreciated if you've a flickr set).Back in the 1960's Brackenwood had 6 shops by the Highwood, Fish&Chips to the left, Grocer/Deli right.Nearby over Lidgett Ln there, I think, 20 shops from Cobbler, Post Office, Butcher, Chemist, (real) Baker, Turnbulls who lasted till early 90's.See map list. A lot of non-supermarket retail, mainly living over the shop.

Thanks for the map Jogon.I used to deliver mail still addressed to Turnbull's bakery, but by that time it had been knocked through and was part of the newsagents and post office The newsagents and post office itself has been extended twice more. It's now a Londis mini market. It still the same Indian family who run it. The Bhogal family used to run the smaller Post office on Gledhow Avenue before that. I know you like the old bus photos Jogon

There's no date on that photo, but I think it's late 60's, early 70's.

That fits in with my early memories of Jackson Ave bus to Town then Lewis's !!Someone on here (the guy ex of the Queenswoods with nice old pics) mentioned that he could recall great detail - and that this was perhaps because it was during formative age 5-10 period where you are imprinting and learning. So the whiff of a coal fire, the look of those buses especially get me.ps.Please gizza link to them.
