Is The Vine on The Headrow just being redecorated and renovated as it looks to have been closed for some time now?

Caron, I can confirm that the Horsforth is still going strong. Just finished a pint in there and it's fairly busy for this time of day.

Barfly, pleased to hear it's still going. I don't know why but I thought it had closed down some time back. It's strange that so many pubs are closing/closed. I thought it was due to the recession but I read yesterday that on average, new Bookies are opening at the rate of one per day....

On page 13 of the YEP today (Oct 8 2012) it reports that Paddy Power (a Bookmaker) has submitted an application to turn the ground floor of the pub into a betting-shop. This is a link to the online YEP report:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-5002387 The Vine was once a much valued stop-off on the "rough" run through town. Start at Hoagy's, The Three Legs, the Vine, Big Lil's (oh dear), whatever Swans was called back then, The Guildford and finishing off in Stumps or Circus Circus. Then on to The News or Ritzys as the fancy took us.I would have thought that there was some architectural / historical merit to The Vine despite the recent decline, but lets not stand in the way of progress eh? That end of town is desperately crying out for another bookies, what with Bill Hills right next door...

I think The Vine should become a charity shop that also sells mobile phones and hot food whilst taking bets. Now that must be a success!
